This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

All students undertaking this qualification are required to undertake work placement as part of this qualification. Work placement provides the student the opportunity to put into practice the skills learning in the classroom.
Prior to undertaking work placement all student must undertake a Working with Children’s Check and must have this in place at the commencement of work placement. Students may also be required to undertake a National Police check depending upon the organisation’s individual requirements where they are undertaking the work placement. Additional information on work placement and work placement requirements are outlined at student orientation.
